Technological advancements have taken down a variety of industries as our society has grown accustomed to having everything less than a touch away. From cabs to phone books to print media, there are various services that are almost obsolete due to innovations that have transformed consumer needs. There are some industries falling at the hand of technological progression, but there are some bigger and better than ever as they were able to adapt in this electronic age. The beauty industry is one of these that seem to be thriving as technology becomes a bigger part of our lives.

Technology has made way for revolutionary wellness equipment and gadgets that help people live better and massage chairs, handheld skin de-clogger and LED light therapy devices are redefining skincare routine to deliver an instant beauty boost. Many manufacturers the world over are embracing these technologies such as Australian Aesthetic Devices to manufacture devices with the exceptional know-how of engineering and design to provide low-cost and pain-free treatments.

A few years back beauty and cosmetic treatments were defined by liposuction, face or eye lifts, rhinoplasty and Botox, those were the days when laser seemed absolutely sci-fi. However, with the advancement in technology and new techniques going under the knife is passé. Non-invasive beauty treatments are here and not only they help in painless treatments but offer therapeutic benefits as well. There is an increased use of lasers for tattoo removal and IPL machines for hair removal, face, and body contouring.

Here are some technologies rapidly changing tattoo and hair removal.

Tattoo Removal

Earlier getting a tattoo removed was a big pain as the methods used were dermabrasion, acid treatments, cryosurgery and skin grafting. All of these methods removed the top layer of the skin which was not only painful but had side effects and didn’t provide optimum results. With the advent of technology came in laser tattoo removal products which considerably improved the tattoo removal process and even introduced new methods.

Q-switched lasers transmit pulses of light in nanosecond onto the tattoo which penetrates the layers of skin where they reach the ink pigment and break it up. Over the next several weeks the body’s immune system expels the ink from the body. After a few treatment sessions depending on the size of the tattoo and type of laser used, the tattoos fade or are completely removed. Today, laser tattoo removal specialists use 3 different types of Q-switched lasers.

Q-Switched Ruby Laser – the light wavelength of 694 nm makes this useful in removing blue and black pigments.

Q-Switched Nd-YAG Laser – this laser can operate at a wavelength of 1064 nm which is effective in removal of grey, black and dark blue pigments or with frequency doubling crystal to shorten the wavelength to 532 nm which can remove red, yellow and orange inks.

Q-Switched Alexandrite Laser – this laser operates at a wavelength of 755 nm which is excellent for removal of every color pigment.

These lasers are high-powered which deliver short, rapid bursts of energy in a trillionth of a second allowing tattoo removal with fewer treatment sessions. Photothermal and photochemical effects caused by the ultrashort pulses break up and destroy the colored pigment. Picosecond lasers are a new form of laser tattoo removal providing significantly faster process from start to finish. This advancement in technology has made picosecond lasers the best tattoo removal lasers. There are two different picosecond lasers in use.

PicoSure – it has the ability to heat up ink pigment and successfully removes orange and red pigments.

PicoWay – it uses a photoacoustic effect that reaches under the top layer of the skin and can treat a broad range of tattoo colors and across a broad range of skin types and colors.

Hair Removal

Women have been using different treatment methods to get smooth and hair free skin such as waxing, epilators, shaving and tweezing. These all treatment methods are temporary, messy, time consuming and painful. Dissatisfaction with traditional hair removal methods has propelled the intervention of IPL laser hair removal machines. The technology used in these machines has made way for non-invasive procedures that provide curative benefits without pain.

These generate a broad spectrum of intense light that targets the melanin in the hair to effectively remove them. The light, when targeted onto the treatment area with a handheld device, gets absorbed by the melanin and converts into heat energy thus destroying the hair follicles. The IPL hair removal machine works on Fitzpatrick scale which classifies skin into type I-VI with their response to UV light. Type I is a light colored skin which burns easily while Type VI is very dark brown to black which tans easily. So, the hair removal with IPL technology is best for people who fall in the range of skin type I-IV. However, with the advancement in technology new machines are available making it possible for people with dark skin tone to effectively get rid of unwanted hair without any complications.

These machines offer the benefits of both IPL and laser technology. In comparison to slightly dated back laser and IPL machines, SHR provides faster, safer and pain-free hair reduction treatment. Hair removal with SHR is effective on all hair and skin types. SHR uses lower energy levels and more pulses where 50% of the energy targets hair melanin, while the other 50% targets the stem cells responsible for hair production. The SHR IPL machines provide an extensive range of benefits and are being manufactured by Universal Medical Aesthetics which enables salons to expand their treatment range.

All these minimally invasive beauty treatments not only give quicker results but are also cost-effective than their surgical counterparts with a much lower risk factor. The advancement in technology has revolutionized the beauty industry thereby making it much easier to implement these aesthetic procedures.
