Acne scars are usually the result of inflamed blemishes caused by skin pores engorged with excess oil, dead skin cells and bacteria. The pore swells, causing a break in the follicle wall. Shallow lesions are usually minor and heal quickly.
Sometimes, acne blemishes leave a dark mark on your skin even after the pimple is gone. … Getting rid of these dark spots on your skin starts with understanding what causes them in the first place. … Treating dark spots from acne is different than treating acne scars.
Dark spots on the skin, or hyperpigmentation, occur when some areas of the skin produce more melanin than usual. Melanin gives the eyes, skin, and hair their color. … Depending on the cause, people may call some types of dark spots on the skin age spots or sunspots. Hyperpigmentation, or “dark spots,” can be caused by acne scars, excessive sun exposure, or hormonal changes.
