As summer comes rolling in, it’s time to put in the thought and effort into your outdoor areas.
Nothing spells summer quite like lounging and relaxing outside, getting some much-needed dose of Vitamin D. After the hustle and bustle of daily life, it will be nice to come home to an outdoor lounge in which you can unwind and kick back with friends and family.
For those lucky enough to live in a townhouse or have your own home in the suburbs, having access to an outdoor space is a definite luxury. Serving as an extension of your home, outdoor lounges can be the perfect place for warmer weathers as well as entertaining visitors.
If you’re preparing for summer and gearing up to turn what is currently an empty patch into a relaxing outdoor retreat, we’ve got a few tips to make it one that will make you want to stay the whole day.
The great thing about designing your own outdoor oasis is that you can tailor it to your own preference. You can pick out what will best fit you and your family’s needs!
Here are some of our foolproof tips on how you can create your own cozy outdoor lounge for summer:
- Stay low and relaxed
Since you’re aiming for a place in which you and your visitors can hang back, stay away from pieces of furniture that are too stiff and stuffy.
If you have an elevated wooden flooring, it may be best to opt for simple floor cushions for cheap yet chic seats. This is an easy option that you can move around based on your preference or if the weather occasionally turns rainy.
Simple floor pillows can be easily relocated based on seating options! They come in a variety of colors as well, so don’t be scared to go for bolder, more colorful options fit for the sunny weather.
Staying low is also good for privacy in case your outdoor space is one that can be easily overlooked.
2. Go for greenery!
Outdoor lounges are a part of your home, but it’s also the entry point for your garden. Go green by laying down fake grass, and adorning the space with plants and flowers for an added touch of decoration.
Grass will serve as a relaxing part of nature and will serve as an escape away from urban life. Fake grass is a good, low-maintenance option as well since they’re typically hard-wearing, and doesn’t need to be frequently trimmed down and watered.
If your outdoor patio is situated near a tree, then it’s way better! Trees give off fresh air and will help you find your refuge amidst the sweltering summer sun.
3. Clear Outdoor Clutter
Out of sight, out of mind. Try to remove anything that is not essential to outdoor relaxation, since this will serve as your mini getaway from real life stress.
Try to limit workspaces to the indoors. The goal is to instantly feel relaxed once you step out, so keep the clutter far away.
Apart from your belongings, it’s best to start with clean slate outdoors too. This means that before you start any designing project, we recommend that you trim overgrown shrubbery and trees, relocate play equipment for your children.
Clear out any broken fixtures that you’ve been ignoring. Start with a bare space then go from there!
4. Consider a water feature for a tranquil touch.
If you have the luxury of a private outdoor swimming pool, then this step should be easy for you. Set up lounging chairs nearby so that you can sit back and relax after a swim on a hot day.
Even if you don’t have access to a pool, any water feature will kick your outdoor lounge up a few notches. You can opt for small garden ponds, birdbaths, or miniature fountains. Just the sound of water has a calming effect!
5. Don’t forget the shade!
Sure, you wanna soak up the sun but overexposure might lead you to suffer from sunburns and may end up just giving you a bad, sweaty time.
A large, oversized umbrella is not just good for shade; The sight of one can easily transport you a holiday getaway! An oversized umbrella paired with rattan furniture can easily conjure images of lounging by the beach in a tropical country.
If you’re not too keen on umbrellas, a beautiful tapestry artfully hung over the space can do just as well!
6. Go from day to night
Your outdoor lounge should easily convert from a daytime escape to a night-time relaxation spot.
Make the most out of your outdoor space by having it be just as comfortable as the sun sets.
Once the temperature drops, it’s a good idea to keep blankets nearby, or you can drape them over your outdoor seats. This can serve as a snazzy design to a regular chair too!
