Your makeup is just as important as your outfit, particularly during the Christmas season. And Christmas really wouldn’t be Christmas without a whole load of glitter to create the ultimate festive eye. Whether you are going out for festive drinks with friends, or on a works Christmas night out, there is no need to hold back on the sparkle, after all, it is Christmas.
Subtle Sparkle
If the thought of incorporating glitter into your makeup routine makes you nervous, it is important to remember that glitter can be used in a variety of different ways to create an endless amount of looks, you are bound to find one to suit you. If you are only looking to dip your toe into the shimmery, shining pool of goodness, then why not try a smokey eye using a blend of black and brown shadows, then apply a touch of glitter to the inner corner to add a pop of sparkle as well as elongating the eye shape. This sultry smokey eye and touch of festive spirit works perfectly for a works Christmas do, or a Christmas date night.
Another great idea for those who want to hold back on the sparkle, is by creating a cat eye with some black liner. Smoke this out using a black eye shadow to create softness and then add some gold or silver glitter along the top waterline. A top tip for this is to use a glitter pen for precision. This look is great with a dark red lip.
Shine as Bright as a Star
If you are a glitter ball fanatic or the queen of themes, then your makeup regime for the month of December will require a whole load of body, hair and face glitter and there is absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. For the classic glitter eye look it is important to have some loose glitter. Create a cut crease using a think concealer then generously pat your loose glitter onto the eyelid using a flat brush. A top tip is to spray your flat brush using a mist or setting spray to make it easier to pick the glitter up. Make sure you apply glitter glue prior to your glitter application for a long-lasting sparkle. If you are feeling extra daring this year, be sure to try a sprinkle of green or red glitter for that extra festive look.
Luscious Lips
An alternative way to incorporate glitter into your makeup look is by creating your very own glitter lips. You can do this by lining your lips as this will ensure that the lip shape remains defined after the glitter application. Next apply your favourite creamy lipstick. Be sure to use a cream over liquid as this will ensure that the glitter sticks and doesn’t slide around. Apply some face glitter using your finger and press into place. This look is great when wearing a bright lip.
Lash Line
If you have small or hooded lids, then it is a great idea to take advantage of your lower lash line. Begin with an everyday eye look of your choice using cool or warm tones. Line your waterline using a pencil liner and then smudge this below the waterline using a shadow. With your finger apply some glitter glue and leave to dry for 20 seconds to create a tacky surface ready to apply glitter.
Sparkly Lashes
This look is super easy yet beautiful and can be removed quickly at the end of the night with no harsh scrubbing with a wet wipe. Grab a pair of your favourite lashes, or an old pair as this is a permanent sparkle makeover. Thicker lashes are best to use as they will hold the glitter. Use a brush to paint your lashes with some glitter glue being careful not to clump them together. Sprinkle your glitter over the lashes focusing on the tips. Wait for the lashes to apply before applying them to your eyes.
