Plant regeneration at the cellular and tissue level is a unique process. Similar to animals, the stem cells in plants have properties that help stimulate and regenerate plants after injury. The unique properties of plant stem cells have been a recent area of interest and focus both in developing new cosmetics and studying how these extracts/phytohormones will influence animal skin.

This special report focuses on the current evidence-based trends in plant stem cell-based cosmetics and sheds light on the challenges that we need to overcome in order to see meaningful changes in human skin using topical cosmetics derived from plant stem cells.

In plants, these cells live in the meristems of plants,”says Dr. Loral, MD. “They help and regenerate live plants after they have an injury.”

The same comes in how the cells act, though. “Stem cells have the ability to self renew and self repair, just like human stem cells,”. “The difference is that the plant ones actually have stronger antioxidant properties than human cells because plants are stationary. They have to protect themselves from the insults of weather.”

Skin care benefits

When use in skin-care products, the stem cells are not live, but you get the same benefits of antioxidants, amino acid content, and ability to boost collagen synthesis from these stem cell extracts.

One exciting area of research for stem cells is in treating skin problems, such as wrinkles, visible capillaries and sun damage. In the basal layer of the epidermis (the deepest layer of the outer surface of the skin), stem cells divide and replace lost or dying cells.

They also repair the skin when it suffers injury. The epidermis is in a constant state of renewal—sloughing cells every single day—so it requires non-stop cell replacement. Therefore it’s essential that we optimize epidermal stem cell population throughout our lives, even as we age.

As our skin faces its daily assaults—environmental toxins, excess sun exposure, improper nutrition—we run the risk of overwhelming the epidermal stem cells. When this happens, stem cells might not be able to keep up with the demand of cellular turnover, resulting in an excess of damaged cells and, eventually, aged and damaged skin.

Edelweiss (Leontopodium alpinum) is an herbaceous plant that grows on mountain ranges from the Pyrenees and Alps to the Himalayas. Over time it has developed many natural defenses in order to survive the extreme climates in which it grows. It has powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

In a recent study, 30 participants applied a cream containing Edelweiss stem cells to their faces twice daily for 40 days.

The cream was found to reduce wrinkle depth of the eye contour area by 15 percent after only 20 days. Edelweiss stem cells also seem to be helpful in preventing collagen loss, firming and restructuring the skin, and preventing aging and sun damage.

I’m Fabulous Cosmetics, organic plant based skin care brand, created a few products with plant stem cells.

Plant Stem Cells Boost collagen production and regenerate the skin to delay signs of aging!

Did you know that most skincare products contains 80-95% Water! Which requires additional chemical thickeners and more preservatives that don’t benefit your skin. Moreover, such a high level of water can be drying to skin.

I’m Fabulous Cosmetics replace ordinary water with plants based ingredients like aloe vera and oils… our proprietary, skin-loving, four times boosted aloe-activated elixir, created from natural, sustainable aloe plants. It definitely calms, soothes, and hydrates skin. I’m Fabulous Cosmetics pair the aloe vera with potent ingredients like hyaluronic acid and plant-based collagen and peptides. Plant-Powered, Clean, Cruelty-Free.  We never formulate with SLS, SLES, Petroleum, GMOs, Animal Derivatives, Gluten, PEDs, EDTA, Synthetic Dyes or Parabens.

The natural components of aloe contain vitamins and minerals that your skin needs and unfortunately cannot get from other ingredients that you more commonly find in your skincare products.

Anyone can use aloe vera?

Yes! Dry, Oily, Combination, Sensitive, Damaged Skin, even those with conditions such as Psoriasis and Eczema.

Anis the founder of I’m Fabulous Cosmetics believe plants are very powerful. Anis formulate with the highest quality Hyaluronic Acids, Plant-based Collagens, Peptides and other natural ingredients to deliver hydrated, youthful, glowing skin. Just by looking at Anis’s skin you can see she is using her own skincare line. Her skin is just flawless and glowing!

Your skin becomes oily when there is a lack of hydration in layers of the skin invisible to the eye. This causes your skin to over produce oils to compensate for the lack-thereof.  Aloe vera is quick absorbing, which prevents clogging of the pores. Applying aloe to the skin is like drenching your pores with the most natural feeling, meant-to-be hydration. Because even if you live in an area like Miami where it is hot and humid you need to hydrate your skin.

In addition to anti-inflammatory properties, there are antibacterial and antioxidant properties of aloe vera that make it effective as a topical treatment for acne.  Aloe vera also assists in the production of collagen in the skin, which is a protein that our bodies produce less and less over time. Aloe vera natural antibacterial properties keep the area clean, and the antioxidants help reduce scar formation and promote quicker healing. Actually, most plant-based skincare products are made or organic ingredients. Plantbased skincare products are made entirely from ingredients that are derived from plants such as fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grains, seeds, nuts, and herbs. So a good brand will want to use those plant-based ingredients from organic sources.

The organic plant extracts that we use to make our natural skincare products are grown in a controlled environment where they are not exposed to synthetic pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers.

To be sure that the plants used in your skincare are organic always check the label for an indication that the product contains a high percentage of ingredients derived from organic farming. We mark this percentage on many of our certified organic products and we are proud to say that some of our plant-based products are made with 100% organic ingredients.

The rise of plant based skincare brands is alive and well. In fact, the green beauty market is growing at an unbelievable pace – currently forecasted to be worth well over $48 billion by the year 2025.

  •     Antioxidant-rich plant-based skincare products work to restore and strengthen your body’s cells by combating free radicals (oxidants).
  •     The vitamins featured in plant-based skincare products are vital to maintaining the health of your skin. They also support cell repair and can help decrease signs of aging.
  •     Essential fats and acids offer a number of skin benefits such as helping to calm acne, fight dryness, combat oiliness, smooth scars, and increase skin elasticity.
  •     The word hydrocolloids may sound a little foreign, but these naturally occurring polymers give plant-based skincare products a natural texture without the need for harmful petrochemicals or other synthesized polymers.
  •     Naturally occurring lipids and esters help support the skin’s natural defense barrier to smooth, protect, and repair.  Such substances are often used as emollients and conditioning agents to keep skin healthy and hydrated.

Our skin is our largest organ. What we put on it plays a big role in our overall health and well-being. It’s important to seek out products that are clean and healthy for your body. This is where reading labels, understanding ingredients, and doing as much research as possible to know what’s inside the plant-based beauty products your purchasing and using on your skin is so important.

Raw vegan skincare goes even another step further. Raw vegan means a product doesn’t contain any vegan ingredient that has been processed, cooked or altered from its natural state. Basically, raw vegan enthusiasts believe ingredients lose their nutrients and enzymes if they are altered in any way. So that’s another thing to consider.

I’m Fabulous Cosmetics create skincare and cosmetics products that use raw organic and vegan plants. High-quality, plant-sourced skincare ingredients can contribute to a clearer, healthier complexion. Whether you have a plant-sourced skincare routine or would like to transition to one, it’s important to understand what plant ingredients can do for you. Formulated to assist the body in calming the nervous system and enhancing the skin. This also assists in the regulation of the immune system. Plants heal. Phyto-Medicine is the future of health and skincare.

Each plant is like a natural pharmacy in its own right: plants are made up of thousands of different types of molecules that evolved right alongside us in nature, and for thousands of years they literally were our medicine.  The difference between a plant and a pharmaceutical used as medicine is this: plants have those thousands of chemicals available to our bodies, so the active components are generally available in relatively lower doses and are provided along with many other synergistic chemicals that balance out the effects of the active components and provide additional benefits.  In contrast, a pharmaceutical drug contains a higher dose of one active constituent without the benefit of other synergistic chemicals, which is why pharmaceutical drugs tend to have lots of side effects.

Did you know that Your skin is the manifestation of what is going on internally in your body + mind. Our plant allies support us on our journey toward the evolution of realizing we have the potential to heal ourselves. It starts by making choices that support our health and balance.

The utilization of the internet and social media platforms has increased considerably over the past few years. Thanks to technological advancements, the penetration of the internet and smartphones have also risen in developing countries. While these platforms have enhanced the connection between human beings, they are also responsible for making people more conscious regarding their physical appearance. Since people can now easily post their pictures online, they want their appearance to be flawless, owing to which they are widely making use of different cosmetic products. It is because of this that the global derma cosmetics market is projected to attain revenue of $76.3 billion by 2024, increasing from $52.5 billion in 2018, at a 6.5% CAGR during the forecast period (2019–2024).

A major factor that is resulting in the increasing demand for derma cosmetics is the rising disposable income of people across the globe, especially in developing countries. Take for instance India, where, until a few years ago, people used to rely on home remedies for taking care of their skin and enhancing their beauty. Now, however, things have changed, and due to globalization and urbanization, the focus has shifted toward commercial products. The increasing income of people has further allowed them to buy cosmetic and personal care products. The World Bank says that from $443.314 in 2000, the gross domestic product (GDP) per capita of India rose massively to $2,104.651 in 2017.

What Are Derma cosmetics?

Dermacosmetics are a bit different from conventional cosmetic products, since, along with cosmetic action, these products also have dermatological action. These products are specifically helpful when it comes to treating skin diseases, including photoaging, which is caused because of excessive exposure to ultraviolet radiation and pollution. The prevalence of skin diseases has been rising all over the world because of a number of factors, such as excessive consumption of tobacco and alcohol.

The increasing applications of cosmetics have been possible due to technological advancements that have aided in enhancing the understanding of skin physiology. Some of the most common skin diseases are hyperpigmentation, acne, freckles, dyspigmentation, deep wrinkles, psoriasis, melasma, and atopic dermatitis. Shedding light on the incidence of such issues, the World Health Organization (WHO) says, “Skin diseases are among the most common of all human health afflictions and affect almost 900 million people in the world at any time.”

Applications of Derma cosmetics

A large number of products, including toners, creams, gels, cleansers, lotions, and serums, are now available in the market for the treatment of skin diseases. Out of all dermatological diseases, acne is one of the most common; it is caused by the blockage of the hair follicles by dirt, dead skin cells, and sebum. A majority of the population across the globe is affected by acne that eventually results in scarring. As per the American Academy of Dermatology, about 85% of Americans are affected by acne during some phase in their lives. The demand for derma cosmetics has been considerably high for treating acne in the past, and the situation is expected to be the same in the coming years.

Other than skin problems, derma cosmetics are also used for hair-related problems, such as hair fall, dandruff, and the damage caused by excessive exposure to pollution and ultraviolet radiation. Shampoos and conditioners are some of the most common derma cosmetics utilized by people all over the world.

Where Can these Products be Procured from?

Different types of derma cosmetics are available at pharmacies & retail stores and online platforms. The sale of these products via pharmacies & retail stores has been higher up till now, as a wide range of over-the-counter products is available in such stores. This being said, the procurement of derma cosmetics is also projected to rise from online platforms in the years to come, which can be ascribed to the rising trend of online shopping all over the world. Derma cosmetics are majorly used at homes, clinics, medical spas, and salons, and hospitals. Clinical, medical spas and salons make the most use of these products, as a number of skin diseases are treated at these facilities.

Asia-Pacific (APAC) To Have Most Flawless Skin in Future?

The demand for derma cosmetics has been increasing rapidly in Asia-Pacific (APAC), which can be ascribed to the changing lifestyle patterns, improving the economic condition of various countries, rising awareness regarding derma cosmetics, growing personal spending, and a strong presence of major companies operating in the domain. Moreover, the incidence of skin diseases is rising rapidly in APAC, which is why people are increasingly spending money on skin treatments.

Many of the key companies offering derma cosmetics, such as Bausch Health Companies Inc., Allergan plc, Johnson & Johnson, Procter & Gamble (P&G), Unilever Group, L’Oréal S.A., and Beiersdorf AG, are household names, thanks to their effective marketing campaigns, extensive supply network, and wide range of products.

In conclusion, the adoption of derma cosmetics has been increasing all across the globe, due to the rising incidence of skin diseases, surging purchasing power of people across the globe, and growing focus of people on physical appearance.

Do you really need a skincare fridge?

Keeping skincare products in the fridge isn’t expressly necessary unless a company advises it. So while most people probably don’t need a skincare fridge, “storing some skincare products in the fridge can help protect the longevity and stability,” says Dr. Stein.

Makeup fridges are the sort of beauty phenomenon that could only spawn in the social media age. They’re compact. They’re colorful. When spilling over with face masks and pint-sized perfumes, they’re just plain cute. They’ve been posted with the hashtag #beautyfridge 2,186 times on Instagram. What they’re not, however, is totally necessary for your skincare or makeup routine.

The best products to keep in a skincare fridge is eye cream. “The cooler temperature of an eye cream helps calm puffiness by causing vasoconstriction, the restriction of blood flow to the under-eye area,” she says. “A chilled eye cream can definitely help decrease those pesky eye bags in the morning.

We love!

Not only are they a private spot to cool down your stash of sheet masks, face mists, creams and more (without any food odors thrown into the mix), but they’re also much smaller than the average refrigerator, meaning you can store them on your work desk or vanity as enviable decor.
