Some, but not all, skin products might increase comedones by blocking pores, and greasy hair products (like pomades) can worsen acne, which creates blackheads. Skin products that claim to not clog pores may be labeled noncomedogenic or non-acnegenic. Make-up and skin products that are oil-free and water-based may be less likely to cause acne.[6] It is not known whether dietary factors or sun exposure make comedones better, worse or have no effect.

What Are Blackheads?

Blackheads typically begin with clogged hair follicles (aka “pores”). There are millions of hair follicles on the body, including your face. Each of these follicles contains one hair and a sebaceous gland that produces oil to help keep your skin soft. When the skin sheds dead skin cells, they can get into the follicle, mix with the oil and form a plug that pushes to the surface and forms a bump called a comedone.

How To Get Rid of Blackheads

Blackheads appear most often in the “T-Zone” of the face (forehead, nose, and chin) but may also appear on the back, chest, arms and shoulders. They can occur wherever there is a great density of hair follicles and their attached oil glands.

Topical products that include salicylic acid to clean out pores and tea tree oil to kill the bacteria that causes acne (the p. acnes bacteria) are the most common blackhead treatments. Blackheads should never be removed by picking, squeezing or popping because it will cause inflammation and potential scarring. Some people mistake blackheads for trapped dirt and try to remove them by scrubbing but this can make the condition worse.

We see excellent results when using the organic, vegan and cruelty-free TCA CLEANSER and TCA TONER in the morning and evening. They both have salicylic acid in it, TCA and over ingredients like tea tree oil. Exfoliating is also a must on a weekly basis using an organic gentle exfoliator like the I’m Fabulous Cosmetics Wild Berry exfoliator. The smooth exfoliating beads lift away dead skin cells, while our special formula containing a lot of antioxidants plant-based ingredients that help unclog pores and reduce oiliness to clear acne and help prevent future breakouts wherever they may occur.

Because natural hormonal changes in the body lead to excess skin oil, clogged pores and ultimately blackheads, it’s almost impossible to go through life without a few breakouts. Although blackheads are bothersome, they are not a serious condition, and most people can get rid of blackheads with topical products that contain salicylic acid

What Causes Acne?

Some These factors can trigger or aggravate acne: Hormones. Androgens are hormones that increase in boys and girls during puberty and cause the sebaceous glands to enlarge and make more sebum. Hormonal changes related to pregnancy and the use of oral contraceptives also can affect sebum production.

What Causes Oily Skin?

Oily skin is the result of the overproduction of sebum from sebaceous glands. … Sebum is an oily substance made of fats. Sebum isn’t all bad since it helps protect and moisturize your skin and keep your hair shiny and healthy. Too much sebum, however, may lead to oily skin, which can lead to clogged pores and acne.

Exfoliate Regularly

Exfoliation is the process of removing the top layer of dead skin cells. It can be achieved mechanically by using a brush or scrub to physically remove the cells. Alternatively, it can be removed chemically by applying an acid that dissolves them.

Exfoliation is believed to improve acne by removing the skin cells that clog up pores.

It is also believed to make acne treatments for the skin more effective by allowing them to penetrate deeper, once the topmost layer of skin is removed.

Unfortunately, the research on exfoliation and its ability to treat acne is limited.

Moisturize With Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is a tropical plant whose leaves produce a clear gel.

The gel is often added to lotions, creams, ointments and soaps. It’s commonly used to treat abrasions, rashes, burns and other skin conditions.

When applied to the skin, aloe vera gel can help heal wounds, treat burns and fight inflammation.

Aloe vera also contains salicylic acid and sulfur, which are both used extensively in the treatment of acne.

Several studies have shown that applying salicylic acid to the skin significantly reduces acne.

While research shows great promise, the anti-acne benefits of aloe vera itself require further scientific evidence.

The skin produces too much oil it mixes with dead skin in the pore, forming a clog that causes it to enlarge.

If the oil becomes trapped by the dead skin, it oxidizes, forming a blackhead.

What You Can Do About It

If you serious about removing your blackheads and shrinking your pores, then act now and get some skin care products that will clean this mess up!

What Causes Enlarged Pores and Blackheads?

It all begins when your oil glands make too much oil. This excess oil mixes with other substances (such as dead skin) in the pore, causing a clog. Not surprisingly, this clog makes it difficult for the oil to flow freely, which causes the pore itself to enlarge.

Even though the pore enlarges to provide extra room for the oil to flow out, the oil still can become trapped (especially around the nose) by dead skin. Once this occurs and the oil and dead skin at the end of the clogged pore is exposed to the air, it oxidizes, forming a blackhead. Yuck!

What You Can Do About It

  • Don’t use bar soap or other skincare products that clog pores. The ingredients that keep bar soap it in its solid form can clog pores. You should also avoid products that are overly emollient (meaning thick or greasy creams)—especially if you have oily skin.
  • Only use gentle, water-soluble cleansers and avoid products with drying, harsh ingredients. We love the TCA cleanser and the Deep Purifying Face Wash Organic (clay based).
  • Avoid scrubs and harsh cleansing brushes with stiff bristles. You can’t scrub away blackheads and the harshness just makes skin dry and flaky, creating more dead skin that can block pores.
  • Never go to bed without washing off your makeup. Neglecting to thoroughly, but gently, remove all your makeup can make clogged pores worse.
  • Exfoliate with a completely non-abrasive to shed built-up surface dead skin that would normally gather in the pore, stretching it out, and risk turning into a blackhead.
  • One more point about BHA, because BHA is able to exfoliate inside the pore, it can help return the pore to its normal shape and allow for an evener flow of oil. It really is amazing how well this works. Our Bio Gorgeous Peel can show improvement the first time you try it, amazing products that will shrink your pores too. Get an Exfoliating as well and use it every day!
  • Use products loaded with niacinamide. Once a pore has stretched beyond its normal size, niacinamide can help provide a “tightened-up” look by boosting skin’s healthy natural quality. The research about niacinamide and its benefit for skin is truly impressive. Try our Niacinamide +B3 Rescue Serum Organic for a concentrated yet gentle formula that also contains antioxidants and skin-replenishing ingredients!

Other Considerations

For particularly stubborn blackheads, consider the following additional measures to see if they can get you even better results:

  • Absorb excess oil. Clay masks can temporarily help minimize the appearance of enlarged pores due to their oil-absorbing properties (as long as they do not contain harsh ingredients).
  • If stubborn blackheads won’t go away, consider extraction from a well-trained licensed aesthetician. A licensed aesthetician who knows what they are doing can extract blackheads without damaging your skin. But don’t try this on your own because aggressive squeezing, poking, and prodding of a blackhead can aggravate the skin and cause a bigger problem than what you started with and might live you with scarring.

Combination skin can be very challenging! Combination skin, on the other hand, offers both the challenges of oily skin AND dry skin as well as any other conditions, including the above-mentioned acne and/or sensitivity.

There are four basic types of healthy skin: normal, dry, oily and combination skin. Skin type is determined by genetics.

Combination skin is one of the more popular skin types. … Of all the different skin types, combination skin is one of the more confusing and prevalent ones. Characterized as having a mix of oily and dry skincombination skin is more common and persistent.

“I love using the I’m Fabulous Cosmetics Magic exfoliating mask daily and the Bio Gorgeous peel twice a week”. Said Anis the I’m Fabulous Cosmetics founder.

The pores in your skin can get clogged with oil, dirt, debris, dead skin cells, and when skin is inflamed due to excess white blood cells. … Oily and acne-prone skin types produce more oil, which can lead to clogged pores, turning into blackheads, pimples, or even cysts due to inflammation.

A skin pore is an opening that allows oil produced by the sebaceous glands underneath the skin to emerge. The oil, called sebum, can act like a glue, binding with dead skin cells to block the opening. As the gland continues to produce oil, this can build up and eventually form a pimple. Watch this animation to see how pores can get clogged.

Clogged pores are a harmless but annoying cosmetic condition that is particularly common in adolescents. Although for decades the dermatological community has insisted that there was no link between diet and acne, recent research has indicated that the foods you eat can indeed give rise to clogged pores, which in turn gives rise to acne.
